| [CATV] AMCHD
Does any Cox area have AMCHD yet? Omaha was supposed to launch it, but they ran into a problem. I hope it launches soon.
Is it normal for cox to list a channel as comming when they don't even have a contract for the signal? |

In any case, if your TV is over 37" or so, the HD channel will still look better due to the lighter compression, even with an SD signal. So long as they don't mess up the aspect ratio, anyway. -- It's wierdo, not weirdo. Yes, I know that's not the 'proper' spelling of the similar english language word. |

| Remastered from original film prints. 35mm film for example is about 14MP while a 1080P frame is just over 2. I've read that a really good 35mm print can be good for 25MP and under ideal conditions 50MP. Even 16mm would be more than suitable for full HD remastering. |

The Equalizer was a good example. It looked mind blowingly good, not oversaturated, although it had a bit much in the grain department, as much old stock not stored in the best of conditions has.
Obviously, on AMCHD, much of the old stuff was shot in 4:3, but that doesn't mean it can't have 720 or 1080 lines of resolution in the 4:3 picture area.
A lot of stuff that's been put on DVD in the last several years has had a 1080i or better transfer from the source, and then they downscale it to 720x480 for the DVD. Additionally, several programming providers have been paying studios to mint new HD masters of old films and television shows. -- It's wierdo, not weirdo.
