| Anybody know? Social Security Benefits Statement......
Hi,
If someone (a US citizen) has never worked and has no income, what would the person's benefit statement show? An income of $0 for every year?
What would be the case when the said person is filing jointly with a spouse who actually has employment income?
Curious to know......Thanks. |

Thanks. |

| I think I'm confused.
If you have no W2 income, then the SSA record should show $0 for each year. Or, if they have never had any income, then it probably doesn't show anything because the statement starts the first year you have reportable income. |

| reply to AR The non-workers statement would have to have all zeros, if they even send one. Does the non-worker even have a social security number? |

| Every citizen has a SS #, years ago you got it when you got your first job, now the parents apply for it when the child is born, without a SS# the child can't be claimed as a dependent on their taxes or anyones. -- It is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. |

| reply to AR The SSA and the IRS share information... via W2 and 941, etc. Since the statement is for each taxpayer, no income would mean $0 for that year on the report.
However, if I remember my last statement correctly, it also shows a spectrum of benefits... retirement, spousal, disability, etc. Start reading here: »www.ssa.gov/mystatement/ -- My Site |

| reply to AR $0 is actually the best for one spouse. when you're both old enough to file for benefits the one getting the lesser amount has to give up their benefits automatically. theres alot of "living in sin" in retirement communities because of this. -- When I gez aju zavateh na nalechoo more new yonooz tonigh molinigh - Ken Lee |

Matter of fact, now I'm curious how my own statement would look since I've been working in Canada since 2004. |

| reply to AR I have had W-2 Income, Self-Employment Income and negative Income while Self-Employed.
I have glanced at most of the other replies and give you my own example - My SSA statement shows several years of '0' income.
This was when I filed I Form 'F' [Farming Income] and had had a loss, even though filing jointly with spouse having W-2 income. --
Darn, its gettin that time to go to Wallymart to gits me picture taken agin.
