BEWARE Terms of Service Change

6.2 Automatic Renewal.
Your service term automatically renews for the same term unless you call us at 1-VONAGE-HELP (1-866-243-4357) to cancel your service before the end of your then current service term. The renewal begins on the day after the last day of your service term

Boy thats a sneaky way to force you into an automatic 2 year renewal. NOT A GOOD MOVE VONAGE!

When did that change? I go month by month so it doesn't matter to me.

I got the email today, you better read it, unless you signed up for a month to month when you started, whatever your original term was will renew automatically on it's anniversary dates.

No Change

That's not a change. Vonage's terms of service has already stated that if you don't cancel the, the service is automaticlly renewed.

As stated in the post above this is not a change Also, if you had of kept reading you would see that the disconnect fee is waived after 1 year (or 2 years) depending on when you sided up.

8.7 Disconnection Fee (Does Not Apply to Business Plus Customers).
You will be charged a disconnection fee of $39.99 per voice line if your service is disconnected, subject to state and local laws. However, if your subscription date is on or after February 1, 2007 and is disconnected after 2 years following your subscription date, the disconnection fee is waived. If your subscription date is on or before January 31, 2007, the disconnection fee is waived if your service is disconnected 1 year following your subscription date.

Just to state this another way .....

Don't confuse a month-to-month service term with the 2-year Disconnection Fee ("early termination fee") commitment.

The service term as defined in TOS, 6.1:

"Your service term refers to the period of time for which we will bill you periodically in advance (for example, one month or one year). The service term is the term that you selected from the options available when you signed up for our service. Your first service term begins on the subscription date, which is the date you first ordered service or the date we successfully process your payment, whichever is later. It is not the day you receive the equipment you ordered or the first time you use the service."

So, if you pay for monthly, then that is your "service term" and every month it renews. If you pay by the year, then that is your "service term" and every year it renews.

The only issue is that if you take their year pre-paid promotion, be careful to cancel before the anniversary date, to avoid paying for another year. None of the pre-paid is refundable. Nor is any month, on a monthly plan, pro-rated for refund--you pay for the whole month.

As the previous poster tried to make clear, do not confuse "service term" with "disconnection fees" or "commitments" based on rebates and promotions.
