Millenicom activation (upload to Sprint problems)?

When I found out about Millenicom, I wasted no time and got a Novatel U727, signed up with Millenicom on Sunday and..... still not fully activated on this Wednesday night.

My first MSL did not work. Ok - day later new MSL, card reset and then activated.

Next problem - cannot update user profile - complains of no network connection although I've tried from three locations (in two different states) and each time the little utility thingie says either 1xRTT or EVDO and has four or five bars, which says to me that I've got good signal. I've been run through the reset several times when I called tech support and each told that it may take 'four hours' to percolate so that Sprint towers recognize my card. Well - that ain't happenin'.

Thought that perhaps the card is tagged as stolen. Got a Sprint Tech on the phone and he checked the ESN and said no problems with ESN.

Tried the ##DEBUG option, and found it has no relation to the utility display as far as signal strength.

When I have the ##DEBUG trace on, it appears that the modem is responding just fine to commands, but does not seem to talk on the network.

Diagnostics show that card tests fine.

Sooo - any hints? The most recent call to Millenicom Tech Support resulted in being told that uploads to Sprint aren't working. Attempts to extract info on what that means lead to the realization that the other party has relativly little clue how things work. Oh - and it may have been for a number of days.

I got this card off EB and the guy seemed on the level and lives not too far from me. Swears that the gizmo works fine.

Any experience on this board with these kinds of problems? Any help appreciated.

The lights on the modem show a connection, a system tray icon is showing a connection, but you can not ping or access any sites...is that correct?

No - I can't even talk to the network to update my user profile after MSL reset.

Modem green led solid (few blinks during attempt) and then an error that the network is unreachable. Kinda puzzling with the four or five signal bars.

Hmm. Not really sure on this. When I activated my dad's modem (sierra 597U) a couple weeks ago we also had a little trouble with it, but all we did was uninstall the software and reinstalled it. When we opened the connection manager after that it came up with a dialogue box to activate the modem. Went through that and it connected up just fine.

About 5 days later though the connection manager auto-updated and he wasn't able to get connected even though he had good signal. We just uninstalled and reinstalled again, and put auto-updating to manual mode.

Not sure if you use the same connection manager as the Sierra though, so don't really know what could be causing your problem.

Sounds like I had same problem. New U720 modem. Started trying to connect Monday 8/25. Connection Manager status display said: "Initializing...", "Searching for Service...", "Updating User Profile...". Hung there for a few tens of seconds. Then a "Update Profile Failure" window popped up with text ending "error code #1012 (user intiated IOTA failure)". (I may not have all the quoted text exactly right.) Is that what's happening to you?

Millenicom technical support tried for a couple of days to find the problem without success. Finally escalated it to Dennis who passed it on to Sprint tech support on 8/27. Very polite, knowledgeable person called me within 30 minuts, explained that they had been having trouble "provisioning" since 8/25. (Think they updated their software system but don't recall who told me that.) He promised my account would be fixed in 24 hours and, sure enough, it was. Amazing.

I don't know if this was just a problem for Millenicom accounts or for all new Sprint accounts but at least Sprint recognizes that it is their problem and they're working on it. If you still can't get past "Updating User Profile", you should be able to get help from Sprint support.
