[OT] Here I Go Again

TO: ALL FLEET COMMANDERS
FROM: STARFLEET COMMAND
SUBJECT: U.S.S. GALAXY / U.S.S. LEXINGTON

To all commanders in the fleet, most especially those under the command of Star Base 12.
Effective immediately and into the forseeable future, the starship U.S.S. Galaxy has been taken out of active duty and was towed to Starbase 12 and the repair docks. Failure of a computer memory system (hard drive) has caused a failure in the starship in making its' delegated duties.
An informal hearing and inspection into this failure shall commence immediately.

Further, after a warp core upgrade and testing on the U.S.S. Lexington, the starship has been returned to full active duty, and hereby resumes command of all ships in the area of Starbase 12, and will be the Flag Ship for Fleet Captain Dan.

So ordered this day by STARFLEET COMMAND.

It seems the failure occured after the power outage a couple of nights ago. Computer started fine, got BOINC up and running, updated the AV, and life was good, or so I thought.

Was cleaning things up last night and noticed the hard drive light on, and clicked the screen on. A nice little box stated "Hard Failure", clicked ok and then a total freeze up.
Reboot brought me OS not found, checked BIOS, master drive not seen. Did a quick open and check of all conections, they are good, but as late as it was, left for today or tomorrow or.............................

I hate it when a drive just goes poof, no warning at all. Fortunately, it was a back-up to get online and a BOINC cruncher.

"Hard Failure"
This is the stuff that causes those knots in your stomach.
Hope all goes well on the repairs and is up and running soon.

And don't worry Capt. Dan, I'll keep an eye out for your Lexington as it comes into view just a little better every day. LOL

This is to notify all commanders, especially the Fleet Captain at Deep Space 12 that the U.S.S. GALAXY is hereby in trial service with replacement hardware. Should testing go according to plan, STARFLEET will recommend full return to service within 2 Earth Standard Weeks.

SIGNED: STARFLEET COMMAND

That is faster turn around than I can usually do - usually the ships give me the finger for a few days, then I get really pissed, than they eventually decide to behave.

The replacement is one I got out of a system that was given to me.
According to the label, it is only 2 years old.
But even at that, I am watching closely.

The failed part is sitting in a very enclosed zip-lock bag, buried in the freezer. I'm hoping for one last shot at it to get some pics off of it before I take the phaser to it.
