Foldy6 - Offline :-(

Well, someone at my house (when I find out who I might skin them!) flipped off the breaker for my entire folding farm ... and I think that may have caused a major issue with Foldy6.

I can't get Foldy6 to power up now. My other folding boxes, switches, router, etc. all started back up with no issues.

To make matters worse, we (the whole family) moved to our summer home till the end of August ... so I won't be able to spend time in the evenings trying to debug what's wrong with Foldy6.

Will keep you posted.

If you have good ideas on how best to debug, please post them here.

Some of the suggestions I received when trying to bring back my farm awhile back.

There are probably other suggestions in that thread to check out if none of that helps.

I vote for unplugging the power from the power supply, but I also hold the power button in for about a minute after disconnecting the power. Then plug it back in and power it up.

Re: Foldy6 - Offline :-(

Us OPs do often sacrifice lots of electricity for the cause. It just never seemed like Foldy6 could keep up It is far better when time money and effort show in the stats.

Conversely, our Membership invest in our hardware, and trust us to run it as long as we can muster. Still, there comes a time where we need to recognize the return on investment and send the troublesome blades packing.

A willing OP is a welcome OP. I am glad for your interest in helping FP. Perhaps some time in August, we can get you a decent box?

If there are others interested in being an OP, I am sure everyone here wants to hear about it.

I run so many FP blades here because someone has to. I think ultimately the C2D and C2Q run circles around the other blades, and use much less power. I can off-load any of the ones here if there are willing OPs or future OPs.

I am realizing that the price to run many blades is a bit high. A few spread over many OPs is less of an electrical and time burden. If I ran just a few, they could be the oldest ones and it would not matter. (I did enjoy getting my hands on the new stuff - but I can share the good stuff too!)

Getting started as an OP with something could get you in the running for the next cool upgrade.

Thanks sorto and Howie ... I will try these ideas when I get home the next time.

Well, I like being an Op and want to keep Foldy6 (either this one or a new one) up and running for the cause.

That said, I am willing to do a "matching gift" challenge towards the purchase of a new Foldy6.

What that means is this:

1)we (I need help here Jim) define a box that is fast enough and efficient enough for a reasonable price (similar to the new Dell's we recently purchased.)

2) we run a fund drive here and for every $ donated ... I will match that $ one for one. Outcome is the total membership needs to raise half the total purchase price and I would cover the other half.

3) we buy the new box and retire old Foldy6

How does that sound Jim?

Sarah See Profile, how is the FP fund so far?

I also wonder if we targeted two purchases.
One raffled off to pay for the two?
$20 tickets until there are 65 tickets sold.

Then the resourceful groundhog could find that Dell deal again!

I am OK with either scenario usa2k.

Matt, what's the FP board view here please? Do you all want to move for a purchase of a new Foldy6? Or should I just try to get the current one moving again and not pursue this? I am OK either way. I just like being an OP

Well just speaking for myself at this moment, I think the best interest of all is to keep as many Foldys up and running at any one time. The machines have been running about 500 bucks, and Sarah reports us just under 100 right now.

That's pretty close to 20% already, and with your match offer that actually gets us to almost 40% there. I like Jim's suggestion of the raffle, however it may slow things down as it could require more total funds donated than the membership is ready to provide at this time. Just my thoughts again.

Since we're looking at collecting and then spending new funds, I will start a thread for the Board to that effect. We gain nothing waiting, and I am sure Foldy6 is a good candidate for replacement, rather than repair. The new boxen are just too inexpensive these days to do it otherwise, short of a minor repair.
