| Connected...but...
Hi, I have installed the Pantech USB modem on a friends laptop for him (Vista Home premium). I followed the instructions (new for me) to the letter and when done I was able to connect but no matter what I do I cannot navigate the internet. I am also unable to ping any web sites. I tried activating it in the options menu but it says Failed. Could this be the problem? I also noticed the on an XP machine (where it also fails to work) the IP address of the adapter is exactly the same as the default gateway address. In vista the default gateway is 0.0.0.0.
If someone could offer some assistance I would REALLY appreciate it. Thank you in advance! |

| You should not have anything in the default gateway. It should be set as "Obtain an IP Addrees Automatically" for both IP and DNS. And the Activation has to pass or you will not connect. When you install the VZAccess Manager software, it will take you through all the necessary steps. If the modem had been activated already, you shoudn't have to do it again, but it should not hurt to do it again. If you are recieving a broadband signal from a verizon tower, then the activation should pass. |

| The default gateway I referred to is found in the cmd prompt, not the TCP/IP settings. Even set to obtain automatically, when connected there will be a default gateway listed in the cmd prompt.
Thank you for the other info though. I appreciate you taking the time to try helping. |

| Could be that firewall settings may not be letting you browse the web? Seems strange to me, I have a laptop with Windows Home Premium. I have the Pantech UM 150. All I had to do was run the VZAccess Manager software, then go through the activation process, and everything works fine. You said in your above post that activation failed. Did you ever get it to pass? If you have already activated your modem on another Computer, you shouldn't have to activate it again. I have used my modem on my desktop by just installing the software. |
