OLT Device working

Hye...I am working at an ISP and we have deployed FTTU in Capital of Pakistan.
I just want to know what how OLT (Optical Line Terminal) works?? I mean when we connect an ONT(Optical Network Terminal) with the network, what is the initial setup of this link?? How ONT is synchronized with OLT??
