Well, you made me look.

Given the audience in this forum, you really should have posted more than an advertisement.

I feel like I've been caught red handed with my hand in the cookie jar.

You may want to be careful when digging through that whois database. You may also find that I own a collagen site based out of Kentucky!! And a site related to boogers as well. LOL, these are all simply sites that have been registered in my name in behalf of long time customers.

Yes, I do have partial ownership in WebHostingPeriod.com.
And as with many hosting companies, you will find alot of them with common owners. WebHostingPeriod.com's main site is hosted on my main corporate server, as well as I provide them colocation on my racks here in Phoenix. It's a mutually beneficial relationship for WebHostingPeriod.com and CityWideHost.com

how do you offer 1.2 TB Hosting for only $4.95?

With really big hard drives.
Of course there's a limit to the number of hard drives that can fit in our cases. (8 drives I believe.)

It's the same concept that alot of other successful companies use in marketing: Overselling. What makes this different from all the others? The level of overselling done. A few examples below:

HostGator - No doubt a very reputable company. And with very little bashing from this very forum. They sell a 600GB disk, 6TB bandwidth plan for $7.95/month. They fill their servers with 1000-1500 accounts. That's alot. Yet it seems to be going well for HostGator.

SurpassHosting - Another respected company on these forums. They sell a 200GB disk, 2TB bandwidth plan for $6/month. They fill their servers with 500-1000 accounts. This too is alot, but seems to be doing well for them.

And there's hundreds of other companies doing the samething. So are successful, others aren't. It's all in their business model.

**The above figured are estimated based on several ip and nameserver tools.**

Without going into further detail as to our business model, I can only suggest that you sign and give it a try. We offer a money back guarantee, so if you're not happy with the service, you are welcome to cancel at anytime.

I would also like to note, that unlike MOST of the other companies, we don't lock you into it for 2-3 years. We allow you the option to pay monthly if you want. So the 'risk' you take is even less.

Is that a fact? Where are you getting this figure from? Links to results from said "nameserver tools"?

If you are willing to pay for the marketing research that was done to find out this information, I'll be more than happy to share it.

I would like to note that even if my provided market research is incorrect, (which is very well could be, seeing as it's coming from a 3rd party).. let's think logically on this...

In all honesty, how many accounts could a webhost fit on a server if they were offering 200GB disk, 2TB bandwidth plan? Even if the server had (4) 1 TB HD's in it, that's still only: 20 accounts that could be fit on the server WITHOUT overselling.

So $6/month x 20 accounts = $120/month revenue.
A cheap configuration from RackMountEtc with 4TB of disk, cost around $3000... So the host doesn't make profit for the first 25 months? And that's not including any bandwidth, AC, Power, etc that might actually be used during that 25 months.

I think what WebHostingPeriod is getting at, it's all just marketing. Whether you are SurpassHosting, HostGator, IPower... it's all a marketing game.

We all might as well be offering YB's of space. LOL

I'm just curious where you got those figures from, especially since our shared servers have no more than 150-170 accounts on each server. Some accounts host more than one domain, so that will drive up the nameserver based rankings, but even then none of our shared servers should show anywhere near 1000 accounts per box...

There's no denying that we oversell -- almost everyone in the business does nowadays -- but 500-1000 accounts per server? That's not even close to factual information.

Without getting too far off topic, I've already mentioned the source of this information might not be very reliable. I would also like to offer that I found one server of Surpasshosting (which I'm assuming you are affiliated with) ... was showing 314 domains - this is just from one of those free ip neighbor searches. This is almost double what you mentioned.

Anyway, we're getting way off topic now.

First of all, I wouldn't have any trouble bashing Surpass if they sucked. But they don't, and your information is flat wrong. I have accounts with them all over the place for different clients, on different servers, and here's what my tools show me.

Here's what my research shows me. All are on shared hosting plans.

Reverse IP: 194 other sites hosted on this server.

Reverse IP: 95 other sites hosted on this server.

Reverse IP: 208 other sites hosted on this server.

Reverse IP: 185 other sites hosted on this server.

Reverse IP: 183 other sites hosted on this server.

As it seems that people want to keep this thread off topic...

Do a search for: luna-oceana.com which is on IP: 66.7.193.136 resolving to sh101.surpasshosting.com

Found 314 domains hosted on the same web server as luna-oceana.com (66.7.193.126).

======

AGAIN, these are just results that I found on the web. They are probably far from the truth. I don't deny that fact.

Again, the whole point of me even mentioning Surpass was that they oversold, and yet are regarded in this very forum to be a good host. I was in no way bashing Surpass.

200GB disk, 2000gb bw OR 600gb disk, 6000 bw ... these are all numbers in marketing. So what's the difference in my 1200gb disk, 12000 bw? If I'm not putting more than 150-170 accounts per server, everything is cool right?

All i was saying is that 1.2TB accounts means in theory that your servers hold 6-7 people with 8 1TB HD's, at 4.99 that is 40 bucks a month, which at that rate would take you 1 year to pay for all those hard drives. It just doesn't make sense. Would you be opposed to be getting an 7 accounts on the same server, and loading them up with 1.2 TB of files?

The same would hold true for all the other hosting companies that are overselling like this. Surpass would be able to get 40 accounts on their server (IF it had 8 x 1TB HDs)

If you were using the space for legitimate web use, then sure. You aren't allowed to use it for hosting illegal or copyrighted content, or backing up your PC.

I think you are confusing accounts with domains. 314 domains may be only made up of 5 accounts (unlikely, but certainly possible)..I do not know of a reliable way to lookup how many accounts are on each server for that reason alone.
