    I keep saying this, but Comcast just rockz! Their service keeps getting better and better and with the implementation of Upload Power Boost, it made my day. Cost is high and probably is a turn off for almost everybody in the market, but for me, my wife's company pays for it, so I cannot complain on that. We have not had a noticeable service outage since my last review update and the service at all times of the day is spot on. A recent speed test results. . .

    * UPDATE December 6, 2006 *

    So in almost 5 years of service I finally hit my one and only hiccup and while it wasn't bad, it did suck for a bit. On Monday evening (12/4) our service went down (both CATV and HSI) at 6:45pm while we were watching On Demand. Typically a service disruption in this area is very minimal and didn't think anything of it; but when 9pm rolled around I got a little concerned. So I called Comcast and the person told me there was an outage in the area and there is no ETA on the fix but did offer me a credit to my account. I figured, ok no big deal, as long as it's up in the morning so my wife can do her work from home.

    Morning came and there was no service still. So my wife called and said that Comcast has no records of any reported outage and we should schedule a service call. My wife didn't buy into that, but said fine whatever. So she had to take a vacation day since she couldn't work and had to find something to do all day since we had no service. So around 4pm I was on my way home from work and saw a Comcast truck at the end of the block. Shortly after I got home, service came back online.

    So today, the day of the scheduled service call, I got an automated message saying there was an outage in our area and service has been restored. Needless to say, the Comcast tech never did come, which is fine by me.

    But since my last review and aside from the above mentioned, our service has been awesome and I am now just waiting for any more upgrades that Comcast will throw at us. I am hoping for more upstream but we'll have to see if Comcast will listen. I think Comcast rocks so much that I even had my parents change their ISP to Comcast and so far so good.

    Oh and the implementation of Power Boost is awesome!

    Well I don't know what to say! Comcast has yet again raised the speed caps for it's users and I am loving this on-going competition. I do wish we could get a little more upload speed due to the breakthrough in Vonage, but I am sure that will come in due time. Our connection is very solid and have no downtimes what so ever! I use this connection extensively for 2 VoIP lines, 7 computers on the network, and 2 machines that access VPN's. Best ISP I have had yet and it's only getting better, so far....

    Comcast just keeps getting better. 1 year after receiving a speed upgrade, we get another one. I pay the $10 extra a month to get the Gold Tier (6000/784) and I love it. I rely on my cable connection for many things now since their service has been so rock solid. I did have to upgrade my old Motorola SB4100 to a SB5100 to achieve the full speeds, but aside from that, everything has worked great!

    * UPDATE January 28, 2004*

    Received the long awaited increase in speed and must say it is nice to have! Service since last review has been very stable and have very little downtime. I have not noticed any real notice in speed decrease during peak times, and pings in game servers are usually in the 20's. Still never had to call tech support, since never have had any outages that are of concern. Only real downside to the whole thing from last update was they raised the price on me from $49.95 to $60.95 a month. But I really don't care cause my wife's work pays for it. Speed test this morning testing the new caps were:

    2004-01-28 11:50:49 EST: 3252 / 242

    Your download speed : 3252194 bps, or 3252 kbps.

    A 396.9 KB/sec transfer rate.

    Your upload speed : 242424 bps, or 242 kbps.

    Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

    Comcast rocks.

    *UPDATE October 18, 2002*

    Well so far so good! I am 100% happy with my service especially since they raised the upload cap to 256kbps. My gaming pings are solid in the mid 50-60's and downloads are always a flyin'! Speed test (chi.speakeasy.net) reports 1574kbps/289kbps, so we are right on. I used to be the biggest fan of DSL, but now, I think cable is da shit! As for the line being buried, got done on schedule like they said.

    *REVIEW February 17, 2002*

    Coming from a very happy Telocity/DirectTV customer, I was kinda skeptical going over to cable. I knew of the upload limitations on cable (which were not present on my 784kbps/784kbps DSL line)but since I was moving to a new house, cable was the only broadband option I had. So I took it.

    I called ATTBI once I moved into my new house near the end of October. I was told service was unavailable in my area - sure enough the ATTBI site listed my house as not being available. But when we decided to build a new house in this area, we were told by our building contractors that AT&T cable internet is available, and a friend of mine has it which is only 2 blocks away from our new house. While talking with the sales rep on my first call attempt, she said service should be available in my area in about 3 weeks and she'll put my order in anyways and see what happens.

    Well nothing did happen. I called them the second week of December to check up on my order and the lady I talked to said she has no record of my call to them nor any type of order. So I was like SHIT. She then tells me, 'I don't know why we would have put an order in for you, service is not even available in your area!'. I began to explain to her that this is a new subdivision, and maybe it's not listed in your database and that my friend has service which is only a few blocks over. She then said she would send technicians out to survey the area to see if cable internet is indeed available in that area and we will call you back. Finally, some progress.

    Three days later, I see AT&T trucks outside of my house probing around the back of my house where the green transformers things are in the ground. I was like cool! However, after about a month of waiting after that, I didn't receive any type of calls informing if service is available or not. So I called again just after the new year. They said they have not received the results from the technician visit and that I would have to wait. I got a little pissed off and demanded to speak to a manager. A manager got on the phone and kept me on hold for a bit to get all his information he needed. He said he couldn't find any logs stating a technician would come out and survey my area, but he checked the area around me to see if other houses around are capable of getting service, and in fact the houses across the street from me can get ATTBI. So he explained that he is about 95% sure that we can get service and he will call me back tomorrow to schedule an installation time; since he wanted to confirm all his information again. I said you 'You better call me back!' LOL!

    Sure enough, he called me back the next day and scheduled my appointment for the following Thursday. So I went out and purchased my own Motorola SB4100 cable modem to have it ready for when the install technician came. Wednesday evening I received a called from Jim the manager again confirming my appointment for the next morning. The next morning, I received a call from the technician asking for directions to my house and he gave me an approximate time of his arrival.

    He got here and surveyed my layout in my house. Since my house was pre-ran with RG6 cable and ready to go in the basement, the install was a breeze. The technician did have to run a new line from the box in my back yard to the house and install a junction box to my house. Since it was the end of January, the line was not buried, but the technician said that sometime in the spring, they will come along and bury the line for me. Once all the inside and outside wiring was done, the technician installed the software on my PC and poof, cable internet. I was satisfied.

    After the technician left, I took this connection for a "test drive". I went straight to DSLreports to test my speeds. My results were: 1503kbps download - 128kbps upload. Exactly what they told me they would be. While on DSLreports, I was reading all the complaints about service and how the speeds suck, etc. I have not experience and type of slow down in my service - in fact, they have been steady to this day. I have had a week of sparatic up and down time, but the bulk of the downtime was very late in the evening when I should have been in bed, but was back up the next morning.

    So far I am 100% happy with my service and hope not to experience anything like the other people here have had. As for the line being buried, I was nervous that they would not come back and take of it. But I received a post card in the mail the other day stating that they are aware that my line has to be buried and that once the weather warms up we will be first on the list to have it done. So far so good. . .

    my internet rocks

    hey i have no problems with my comcast cable, it basically kicks a$$. they just uped me upload speed and my downloads couldn't be better. they only thing better would be the docsis 3.0 service of 150mbs that they have been working on, now that would be a rediculously fast internet connection!
