(ratings match consensus)

High costs to startup, length of contract and download caps that are not realistic for todays internet user make this service a last-resort only provider.

Hughes customer service is poor, and their 'add-ons' such as email and tools are terrible.

Wildblue was not available in Michigan at the time, and Starband was on the brink (as always?) so I paid $300 for installation of DirectPC dish and DW6000 ending up with 500kbps download and 100 kbps upload averages (over the 2 years, minus weather outages).

For $700 a year, I hate the download cap level; I'm not opposed to bandwidth limiting in a truely FAIR system, but 120Mbytes per 24 hours is not realistic; 5Gbytes per month would be an improvement.

It's not good value for your money.

Just clearing up some mis information about Starband.

Where on earth did you hear that Starband is on the brink? you are completely misinformed. Starband was acquired quite some time ago By Spacenet which has very deep pockets, has been in business for over 25 years and is committed to continuing the residential sat INTERNET model.

Spacenet is the #2 commercial enterprise satellite provider in the USA.

Starbands FAP policies are far more generous that HN, including a FAP free happy hour from Midnight to 7AM EST. ( HN's is ony from 3AM to 6AM.

They let you do large downloads that are not possible with HN unless you want to run afoul of their FAP policy.

And to top it all off their support center is located in the USA and staffed by real English speaking Americans.

Reviews should contain factual information not rumors and innuendo
