NOTE: LATEST REVIEW AT BOTTOM.
:::::::::::: October 15, 2006: ::::::::::::
Today starts my review and service with Comcast. I called their 800 number and was greeted by a sales rep. who looked up my account information and asked what he could help me with. I explained to him I was a former Adelphia customer and was interested in their HSI and to find out what kind of promotions they offer. He told me they were running a promotion of $27.95/mo. for 12 months or $24.95/mo. for 12 months if you brought your own modem. I asked him what kind of speeds the package included and he said "It's our 6 meg". I asked him what kind of upload speeds and he was unsure of the answer and restated the price as "$24.95/mo." I again asked him the upload speed, what it was, and to help him, I mentioned that he said the download speed was 6megs, so the upload was at what speeds? Again he remained silent. Apparently he didn't know what the upload speed was..and then he says "It's a secret". Yep! Must be, even the sales reps don't know! I thanked him for his work and hung up.
I called right back to be greeted with another rep who as well could not tell me what the upload speed was. But I decided to go ahead and sign up and use my own SB4200 modem. She added the package to my account and explained to me what my monthly bill will be with the HSI and CATV included. She then informed me she will transfer me to tech support tog et my modem provisioned. I was transferred to tech support where I waited 30 minutes before a tech came on the line. After some searching through her computer, she determined that I needed to be sent the provisioning department. I asked her if she could please transfer me and of course she was more than happy to.
I waited on the line for over 45 minutes before I finally hanged up. Today I will go and get a better cable modem and try my luck again with Comcast.
I will update this review once I am online and have conducted a few speed tests. Let's hope the service is better than Adelphia.

I found out today that Comcast has another special, 8 megs down and 768kbps up for the same price of $24.95/mo. for the first year. So I called up and they guy went ahead and changed it for me. I also stopped by Bestbuy and picked up a BEFCMU10 ver. 4. cable modem. Came home and called Comcasts provisioning department. Waited on hold (NO JOKE) for 1.5 hours before a nice lady answered and got me squared away. I was up and running within 5 minutes of speaking with her as well as got my username setup.
A quick speed test yields:
Download Speed: 8348 kbps (1043.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 701 kbps (87.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Not BAD at all! But now I need to test my connection over the next month to see if its as stable as my BellSouth connection.
Ill update this review as time goes on.

Yesterday, October 20, 2006, my connection was down for about 10 hours. When I got home last night I had to power cycle the modem to get sync. My SNR was around 25 and my downstream power was at around -14. Thursday night I was experiencing some problems and went online to chat with a tech support to setup a tech to come out on Saturday. He didn't make me go through the normal 'reboot your computer, install new nic drivers, etc' routine. He was professional and upfront with what I was requesting and got it taken care. He scheduled a truck roll for today, Saturday, October 21, 2006. On Friday while at work I went online again and spoke with another agent who confirmed my appointment for today. She also tested my modem and saw it was offline.
Today the tech arrived at around 9:30AM. I saw his truck outside and decided to go outside. As I opened the front door and approached his vehicle, I received a warm "HELLO THERE!" from the tech. I explained to him that I'm having connection problems and that based on what a few Comcast techs on this forum have told me, I believe the splitters on the side of the home and some of the end caps need to be replaced. He went to the side of the home and totally agreed with what I was told online and proceeded to that. He was happy that I had determined which cable was the cable for my cable modem (I guess that saved him a lot of time?) and went on to tell what he was doing. He was professional and totally down to Earth the whole time. I could not have requested a better tech.
So far, despite my connection problems (no fault to Comcast), Comcast has been very good to me as far as customer service. I've received nothing by positive assistance from. After the Tech was done, I tested my signals and they were within range. He explained to me if I wanted them even better, I'd have to run a new coax cable, but I declined and he agreed.
I've attached my 'uptime' graph for the last few days. As you can see, I was down for most of Friday.
A quick speed test @ 9:28PM shows:
Download Speed: 7948 kbps (993.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 705 kbps (88.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Not bad at all for being a Saturday and being at night where most people are at home.
I will update my review in 1 month. I hope everything goes smoothly.

Connection still strong with no downtime. I've since cancelled my DSL since my service has been very reliable. Now, it'd be nice if they bring powerboost to the area. If they bring a faster tier plan (ie. 16/1), I will not be upgrading unless I get the free upgrade. The $24.95/mo. promotional plan is great. I will continue to update.

Connection is still going strong with no problems. Had some sync issues today and over the weekend, but found it to be a bad splitter on my end. Replaced the splitter and everything is back to normal. I don't see the powerboost speeds when downloading anything, only when I do a speedtest. But I really don't mind, since the price is great!!!

What can I say? Comcast, in this area, has been as reliable, and stable, as my DSL connection. Not only that, but I also seem to be constantly getting powerboost speeds (up to 20mbps) on most of my downloads. The service has gone out here and there, but little downtime is expected.
For Comcast being as big as they are, it's only expected that the service be this reliable. Good Job Comcast!

I figured it's time to update my review on Comcast (besides, this site keeps nagging me!). The entire connection is extremely stable. Maybe once a month I'll experience a disconnect, but power cycling the modem will sync right up and away I go.
A few months ago I did have a problem with my connection where it was constantly dropping. My signal levels were very marginal, so a tech was sent out. He did some checks and concluded that the cable running from the box to my home was bad and needed to be replaced. He said that he will have them adjust the amp and will also replace the cable, and I'd see that done in 3 days.3 days went by and nobody came out to replace the cable. But they must have made adjustments to the amp because my connection was fixed.Been stable since.
I also get powerboost on upload and download (about 20mb/1mb). But I do hope they bring faster speeds (and not just powerboost).
A+ to Comcast in my area.

Just wanted to update that Comcast has upgraded our speeds from 6/384 and 8/768 to 6/1, and 8/2. I'm on the 8/2 package and am very happy. The service is great, and the speeds are always fast. Good Job Comcast!
:::::::::::: December 14, 2008: ::::::::::::
Service has been stable, with speeds always above advertised speeds (with powerboost). I downgraded back to 6/1, but for some reason it's at 6/2. So I'm not complaining as I prefer a higher upload than download.
Keep up the great work Comcast!
