After seven years of dialup, half speed for full cost DSL was very acceptable: 2003-08-13 02:31:37 EST: 628 / 132
Cable is a big jump: 2003-08-15 18:25:55 EST: 1432 / 244
Installation was uneventful. Tech called before showing up. Tech arrived on time, tested the cable, hooked up modem, activated the service, demonstrated a few speed tests and was very knowledgeable. I moved the connection to a router/switch that I had been using with DSL, followed the 'wizard' setup for the router (Siemens Speedstream), it worked first the time.
The cable network in this town was not all replaced, it was an upgrade - this cut the upgrade time (waiting for cable modems to be available) to less than half of a complete replacement - that's good. Will the upgraded network will be reliable as a completely new network? Historically it should - cable TV outages are rare here and the pictures have always been good to excellent.
Updated 2006-01-02 Cable constantly tops 7000. Even improved, higher cost DSL cannot get higher than 2400 in 93950. Outages, nil. When PG&E goes out, the modem goes out, guess that's all the outages I've had. Was a period of time that capacity needed an upgrade and it arrived. The Usenet server has issues. Often thinks I am not a customer.
Updated 2007-08/-18 Powerboost is a great feature, really accelerates most downloads and media laden pages. Reliability has been proven.
Updated 2008/04/04 Blast! 16/2 sustains the Powerboost speeds. Stuff like movies and podcasts on iTunes are there very quick.
